Day 1: Before You React, Can You Pause? (The Art of Stopping)
Welcome to five days of Inner Calm — a daily practice to restore your capacity to see clearly and choose intentionally, right in the middle of your day.
Wherever you are right now — at your desk, on your couch, in between things — you’ve already done the hardest part. You stopped.
For the next five minutes, we’re going to practice something simple. The art of stopping. Just pausing long enough to see what’s actually happening inside you right now and realigning with what is important.
So let’s do it together. Right here.
Think of a situation when the momentum of your habits take over - could be with respect to watching the news, checking your phone, online buying, or other triggering situations. Or you can practice with just being here right now.
Stop.
Take a breath. And notice — what is making contact with your senses right now? What are you seeing, hearing, feeling? Not what you think about it. Just what’s here.
Now notice the feeling tone. Is this moment pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral? Don’t judge it. Just feel it.
What is the perception — the recognition — that your mind is offering you? What stories, labels, assumptions are already forming about this moment, this day, this week?
And now the question that matters most: what is your intention right now? Not your habit. Not your default. Your intention. Is it aligned with what you value most? Is it aligned with what is most important to you in this season of your life?
If it is, give it your full attention. All of it. That’s the practice.
And if it isn’t — you just saw that. And in that seeing, you already have a choice you didn’t have a moment ago.
That’s the art of stopping. Just this — a micro-moment of clarity in the middle of your day. We’ll practice it together every day this week at 1:00 PM. Same time. Different micro-practices. Deeper each day.
Between now and tomorrow, take this with you: before you reach for your phone, before you click buy, before you react out of habit — remember the art of stopping. Just stop. And if all you can remember in that moment is to stop and breathe, do that. Then ask yourself this one question: what is my intention here?
And if you know someone who could benefit from five minutes of calm in the middle of their day, please share this 5 Days of Inner Calm with them.
See you tomorrow. Till then —
